FATE’s primary purpose is to help school districts develop and maintain quality special education programs in public schools. Well-trained special education teachers have an "exponential affect" on families in the general community. Each teacher who is trained benefits not only the students they currently serve, but those they will come in contact with over an entire career. For this reason, FATE passionately believes that the best way to help the growing number of children with autism is by strengthening their most valuable resource - special education teachers in their neighborhood schools.
The training offered through FATE is based upon the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), the only scientifically-based treatment recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General. Training is also provided in Direct Instruction (DI), a research-based curriculum proven to be effective in teaching academic skills such as reading, language comprehension, and mathematics. These workshops were designed by special education teachers who are also board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) for teachers to help them effectively implement the principles of ABA throughout the day in their public school classrooms.
FATE provides “seed funding” to school districts through an initiative named Project Pipeline. Teachers accepted into Project Pipeline are eligible to attend any of the workshops offered through FATE without cost to them or their school districts. If you are a professional in the field of special education and work directly with children with autism in public schools, you may apply for a grant by completing the online application.
